Warning! Even less than one can of soda a day can harm your liver
Think one soda a day is harmless? Think again!
New research presented at the United European Gastroenterology (UEG) Week shows that even less than one can of soda per day — including “diet” versions — can increase your risk of liver disease.
What did the study show?
Researchers followed 123,788 UK adults for more than 10 years.
They found that those who consumed more than 250 g of soda per day (about one can) had a 50–60% higher risk of developing metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), formerly known as NAFLD.
Why are sodas a problem?
Sugary drinks cause rapid spikes in blood sugar and insulin, which leads to fat accumulation in the liver.
Some artificial sweeteners are not harmless either — studies show they can disrupt the gut microbiome, affect appetite, and stimulate insulin release.
What can you do?
- Limit both regular and diet sodas.
- Replace one soda a day with water — research shows this may reduce liver disease risk by up to 15%.
- If you want flavor without sugar, choose Frutilu instant drinks.
Frutilu – a smart choice for a healthy liver
Frutilu instant drinks are a great alternative because they:
- contain no sugar
- include vitamin C
- are vegan
- come in many refreshing flavors
- you get the taste you love without sugar spikes or stressing your liver
It’s not just about calories — it’s about liver health. Even “moderate” soda consumption may be harmful long-term. Choose a better option: Frutilu sugar-free instant drinks — because your body deserves refreshment, not overload.
